How to use Aquapasto medium

Step 1

Aquapasto is a watercolour medium that increases the thickness and viscosity of your paint. Mix it directly with Watercolour or Gouache, blending thoroughly to ensure even consistency.

Step 2

Vary the amount of Aquapasto to control the impasto texture, using more will create thicker, more textured brush strokes.

Step 3

This makes it great for experimenting with mark-making techniques such as sgraffito (scratching into wet paint) or blending for added detail and surface interest.

Step 4

The ratio of pigment to Aquapasto will influence the opacity of your paint, so you can adjust this to achieve the level of transparency or coverage you want.

Step 5

Aquapasto can be used wet-on-wet for soft blending or applied in dry layers for a no-lift effect when painting over dried areas. You can also add water to loosen the paint for broader, more fluid strokes.

Step 6

After use, wash your brushes thoroughly. Keep in mind that Aquapasto extends drying time, giving you more flexibility to work with the paint before it sets.
