Artisan Surfaces

To achieve the best result with Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colour, starting with a correctly prepared surface is important. We will compare the performance of Artisan on an unprepared surface to a surface prepared with Winsor & Newton Oil Primer. Whilst Artisan looks and works like regular oil paint, it is made with modified Linseed and Safflower oils, allowing the paint to accept water as a solvent. If you do not use an oil primed surface you may find difficulty painting your first layer, you may have to work harder at applying the paint to the surface, as you can see here. On an oil primed surface, Artisan goes on smoothly and evenly.
