About Ross Brown

Born 1986, UK 2004 – 2008 Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, BA (Hons) Fine Art (First Class) 2009 – 2010 Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, Master of Fine Art (Distinction) Represented by Berloni Gallery, London Artist’s Statement My work investigates notions of obsolescence, structure and entropy within the urban environment, channelling these concerns via the process and history of painting. I find subject matter within ambiguous spaces on the fringes of the built landscape, places where boundaries between architecture and nature, order and disorder, past and present have become blurred and indistinct. These liminal sites become subject matter for a painting practice which mines equally marginal formal territories, using chance-based painting processes more readily associated with the history of abstraction to vie against rigidly controlled perspective and tightly constructed representational approaches.
