About Rosie Sanders

Rosie Sander's unique style of painting pushes the boundaries of Botanical Art and whilst fitting loosely into the tradition of the genre, the size of her compositions and intense richness of colour sets her apart from her contemporaries. The Flower paintings have a sensuous quality and drama that is unrivalled in contemporary botanical painting and her paintings of fruit and vegetables combine this quality with a realism that makes them 'good enough to eat'.

Best known for her superlative studies of fruit, apples in particular, Rosie has devoted much of her time recording old and present varieties culminating in her book 'The English Apple' (1988).

She has been awarded five gold medals by The Royal Horticultural Society and received the Royal Academy miniature award in 1985. In 2004 however she had an extraordinary innovative show at Jonathan Cooper's Park Walk Gallery showing plants vastly magnified yet still in watercolour and has continued with these larger works.

Rosie has had several books published, the most important of which is 'The English Apple' published by Phaidon Press.

Rosie currently lives in Devon where she gives residential or non residential botanical painting courses.
