About Ronnie Biccard
I have been painting all my life, it is my passion, it is my life. I have exhibited extensively over the last 30 years or so, having many solo and group exhibitions, mainly in South Africa but elsewhere as well. I had a one-man exhibition in Florida, USA where I lived and worked for a short time.
I have artwork in public and private collections in South Africa, Europe, Australia, UK and the USA. There are collectors of my work all over the world. I lived and grew up in South Africa, with its diversity of peoples and culture, the landscapes and the light, the sunshine and the intense energy it has influenced my work greatly. I am inspired by human relationships, especially the role of women which has been recurring theme. They reflect the graceful movements of human emotion they exude warmth, charm and joy.
My paintings are emotional and personal; I love still life subjects mixed with landscapes, figures and flowers. I transform and reinterpreted information, reference and subject matter into personal visual statements.I'm excited to be in England now as I'm sure new influences await me.
Ronnie Biccard's Work
My colour palette is bold, vibrant and strong. I do however use muted tones in some paintings. I think colour is the most important element in my work and has been for years. I use the elements of space and shapes very personally, they are mostly flattened and sometimes don’t make any sense.
I do not adhere to any theoretical rules about perspective. In some of my paintings I use patterns and textures, but by and large my work is quite free flowing, loose and linear. My work gives one the sense of freedom and movement, it is expressive and whimsical at times and I can’t begin to imagine into which “ism” it belongs. Oils and acrylics are the mediums I love to use I occasionally fly off course and paint in mixed media.
Over the years I have experimented and dipped into many other projects: Ceramics, wrapping paper designs, silk screening, illustration, murals, interior decorating, picture framing, blogging and teaching. These are the artists that have made the deepest impact on me:- Modiliani, Klimt, Lempika, Mucha, Cezanne, Gaugin, Matisse, Renoir, Botticelli, Chagall, Kandinsky, Picasso. These are the artists I just simply love; Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothco, Rubens, Rembrandt ,Hockney, Dali, Warhol. I cannot go on without mentioning my all time favourite architect; Gaudi.
