About Murray William Cole Ince
I have always drawn and as a furniture designer and maker by trade kept up my drawing skills until I swapped the tools for a paintbrush. Like most people I did art at school and had my first solo exhibition when I was twelve (in the school corridor). I took an A level in art and design as a mature student and for the experience of approaching art as a student then studied at the local college for a teaching qualification.

I exhibit regularly on the Isle of Wight specialising in Landscape painting with particular expertise in Artisan Oils though I also teach Pastel painting, painting in acrylics, gouache and occasionally water-colour. My main influence stems from when I was eleven years old and saw Constable's Haywain for the first time and the subsequent Constable's.

I am also inspired by Turner, Delacroix, Claude and Monet. Among the more modern artists that inspire me are Gordon Lees, Roland Hilder, Robert Taylor, Steven Dews and Barry Watkin.

Murray William Cole Ince's Work
My style is fairly realistic though I am trying to make some of my work a little more impressionistic. I like to paint a wide variety of subject matter but my true love will always be landscape painting and I especially enjoy painting with 'Artisan' oils though I also love working with soft pastels and acrylics.

My technique in all cases except watercolour is to work from dark to light and in layers from back to front usually from top to bottom, using a reasonably limited palette. I love to paint skies and trees and I am told that this comes through in my paintings.

I have just finished painting a picture of Dartmoor on my blog (murraysart.blogspot.com). I use my blog as an online demonstration area having photographed and posted the progress of my painting at various stages and have explained the thought and creative processes, this is the first of a series of four paintings of Dartmoor National Park.
