About Jimmy Leslie's work
When asked about his work Jimmy replied “My current work consists mainly of three series that I am working on simultaneously:
The first series: entitled “Mufflers, Manifolds, and other Metal I’ve found while running” is made up mostly of metal pieces that have fallen off the underside of cars. While on daily runs I pick up interesting scraps that others might not notice and then I return later to shoot photo reference of the location. By making diptychs and triptychs I can bring together a synthesis of representational and abstract imagery that satisfies two creative urges in one piece of art.

The second series “Layers” are small, non representational and are mostly done on paper. When making these abstract compositions I am often thinking of locations seen from above and foreign languages which stem from my love of travel.

The third series consists of multi-media collages made using watercolor, acrylic, and things like receipts, maps, and brochures that I collect while travelling. All three series share the common themes of pattern, location, texture and a sense of history”.
