About Carol Tarn

Carol has worked from her studio at the Chocolate Factory in Wood Green, London since 2004 and she exhibits there annually at the annual Open Studios, an event which regularly attracts over 5000 visitors.
Carol has exhibited at The Artsdepot Open London (2006/07/08), was a finalist in the inaugural Ovenden Contemporary Competition (2009) and was selected by Go Figurative for ‘Real Broadgate’ 2010. She has a forthcoming solo exhibition which will take place at Burgh House, Hampstead in 2011.
Carol Tarn's Work
Carol’s work is a mixture of commissioned portraits and self generated figurative projects. Her style has been described as ‘painterly realistic’ and following her selection as a finalist in the Needhams Open 2009 her work was reviewed as follows “Her exceptional portraits grabbed the attention of our judges and have been receiving much interest from the industry recently" - The Bullet Magazine 2009.
Carol uses traditional oil painting techniques, working in thin layers of paint, slowly building up each painting over a period of time. This method creates a striking luminosity in the colours and allows Carol to move beyond a simple linking together of shape, colour and tone to create a likeness in her work that aims to capture the essence of the personality of each model or sitter.
In addition to her commissioned work for private clients, Carol has a particular interest in the theatre and is creating a growing collection of paintings of actors from the London stage. Carol also encourages young talent and regularly mentors students in her local area as they prepare their portfolios for application to Art Colleges.
Carol Tarn uses Winsor & Newton because
