About Susie Wonfor

I have been a practising Illustrator and fine artist since 1999. I have lived in Africa for the past ten years, so my inspiration has been abundant. I have worked in many varying fields of commercial art from children's books, to logo design, environmental conservation, greeting cards, scientific illustration and corporate promotions.

I have produced and sold many paintings and have had 4 exhibitions. I have produced a number of murals for hotels and private residents. When I am not illustrating, I work on my acylic on canvas series.

Susie Wonfor's Work

I do not like to compare myself with other artists. We all have our own unique style and approach, which is not better or worse than the next. But to be influenced and inspired by other artists is wonderful!

I have loved painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. I defied my parents wishes and went to art school at 16 years old. But it was only once I came to live in Africa, that my inspiration truly came alive. I have two very distinct styles of work. My mixed media work and my acylic on canvas. The mixed media work lends itself well to illustration, whereas my acylic work is much more personal and exploratative.

My mixed media work, mainly watercolour, w/c pencils, colour pencils, ink and sometimes collage, is both vibrant, dynamic and full of joy and light heartedness. My canvas work has depth and atosphere. Stillness, beauty and capturing moments in time.

I have been working for the past year on my African Woman series, using a Tanzanian friend as my model. The paintings are done in between illustration assignments which currently include a children's book and marine/wildlife illustration.

Susie Wonfor uses Winsor & Newton because
it has been my primary product for the last 20 years, through art school and my career, mainly because I have become familiar with the acrylic and water colour range, the richness and quality of the pigments and I need to understand how the colours work together, so Winsor and Newton are always my first choice.
