About rod-holt
Biography Rod Holt was born in Rochdale, in 1958. He trained at Rochdale College of Art and the University of Northumbria. Grahic Designer for University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. Since 2004, he has been working full-time as an artist.
rod-holt's Work
Recent pieces are inspired and invigorated by the wildness and uncompromising nature of the Dark Peak landscape. Rod concentrates on capturing intense detail in his pictures and subject matter and composition are of great importance. Whilst working at a small scale the work is not just miniaturist. Rod uses Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache to get the detail in some works, Rod also specializes in using ballpoint pen and coloured pencil to create some unique drawings for a major project 'The Journey'.
rod-holt uses Winsor & Newton because
the consistency of the Designers Gouache and size 00 brushes allow me to attain the opaque colours and fine details I require in my work. I associate the materials with quality. I recently visited my first Art Teacher, Maude Belfield (see drawing). She produced some work I had done in her class 42 years ago (using W & N materials) and it looked as fresh as it did when I painted it.
