About Lynn Norris
I am an artist based in Coddington, Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire. I have been painting and drawing since I was child, my parents would say it was an easy hobby to encourage given it was cheap and kept me quiet for hours. After leaving school I was lucky enough to study my passion at both college and university. I have a fine art degree and have tried varied mediums and subjects, including printmaking. In recent years I have enjoyed painting in watercolour the most, this medium allows me to express, great light, colour and atmosphere in my paintings, but most of all I enjoy the unpredictable nature and the creation of a unique piece of work every time. For many years I have painted as a hobby, exhibiting and selling work through local art clubs but after recovering from Thyroid cancer last year I decided to follow my passion and become a professional artist and tutor. I run Friday morning art classes in Coddington Village Hall and have a series of day workshops on Saturdays. I also work privately with companies to offer classes and workshops and individuals with private tuition tailored to the customer’s needs. I also undertake commissions regularly and sell greetings cards and prints of my work. My main influences are the great outdoors, colour, light and atmosphere, Nature has amazing sights, I'm never without my camera.

Lynn Norris's Work
My work is colourful and atmospheric, I work fairly quickly and let the freshness of the paint show through. I'm a strong believer in letting the eyes of the viewer see the picture, so my paintings give an impression and not too much detail. I love the fluidity of water colour, wet in wet is my favourite, but I can turn my hand to any medium and subject. My subject matter is mainly nature and the great outdoors, I constantly amazed by skies and this shows in my work, I love to paint skies and I'm lucky enough to spend alot of time outdoors in my touring caravan painting them. I currently spending time try out new materials and revisting old ones to prepare for future classes, students are always keen to learn new mediums and its great fun for me to experiment too. I'm also planning my 3 week trip to Cornwall in June, to ensure I can get paint and offer a few classes and workshops 'plein air' Unique qualities, I'm not one for blowing my own trumpet though I'm constantly told I need to do it more as the most successful artists are not bashful. I never stop learning, I still attend local clubs, go to other artists workshops and branch out to try other creative/crafts, you never know when an idea will strike, 2 weeks ago I was making an obelisk with living willow and plan to use some of the knots taught into mixed media paintings very soon.

Lynn Norris uses Winsor & Newton because
I love the freshness and luminosity of colours, I trust their quality I've been using them for 20 years and I'm actually not that old, I've just turned 36:-)
