About Lorena Kloosterboer
Lorena Kloosterboer Dutch-Argentine artist Lorena Kloosterboer, born in the Netherlands in 1962, creates paintings in the trompe l'oeil and photorealism styles. An irresistible attraction towards Realism challenges her to paint with great precision and tightly executed details. Lorena’s compositions are infused with symbolism, allowing the artist an essential freedom of expression to convey her thoughts and beliefs while implementing the meticulous techniques of Realism. Her paintings reveal a desire to capture the fascinating interactions between colors, light, shadows, textures and reflections, and unite them in visual poetry. During her twenty-five + year career Lorena’s artwork has been exhibited in galleries and art museums in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Five of her bronze statues enjoy permanent public installation in the Netherlands. Lorena Kloosterboer currently lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.

I feel an irresistible attraction towards Realism. The challenge to paint with great precision & tightly executed details seduces me into continuously conquering new boundaries & mastering new skills. Currently, I focus on two of the most meticulous of the fine art genres, trompe l'oeil & photorealism (in a more ‘painterly’ manner than hyperrealism). Symbolism infuses my compositions with what is for me an essential freedom of expression. This allows me to convey my thoughts & beliefs, while still implementing the subtle but exact techniques of Realism. I’m very attracted to glass, metal, reflections & how they are affected by the colors surrounding them. My still life compositions reveal my desire to capture the fascinating interactions between colors, light, shadows, textures and reflections. I seek to capture those fleeting moments in my artwork, when light is just perfect, when colors & shadows & textures unite in visual poetry. When there’s a story to tell. My technique consists of layering many thin glazes until I obtain the realism & richness I’m seeking. Currently I’m working on perfecting my skills to portray clear glass in novel surroundings.

I use Winsor & Newton art supplies because they offer very fine quality products, which are easily accessible to buy everywhere in the world. I especially love their gessoes, varnishes, mediums (a great variety) & brushes. I also find the Winsor & Newton website incredibly informative. And Winsor & Newton’s technical support is prompt, courteous & invaluable. A few years ago I encountered a problem with a varnish, which a very kind W&N artist (Ian Maginnis) helped me solve via email.
