Ian Finlay's Work
I am very much attracted to the play of light on a subject or scene and always try to put this across in my work. I prefer to paint subjects to which I can directly connect but I do enjoy tackling new challenges. Painting water, animals or landscapes has always been popular with me. Outside of my commissions for the past two years I have also focussed on painting my immediate environment; seascapes and landscapes of the south coast and the Solent. Whereas many painters express distance through fuzzy horizons, when I see the world around me it is often the crisp distinction between the land and sky through light that I find so appealing. I have taken on board a comment from the landscape painter, John Webster. ’See the world through your own eyes’, so that is what I am aiming to do.

Ian Finlay uses Winsor & Newton because
the product has always been associated with the best quality.
